Ledger.com/Start Process
Setting up a Ledger hardware wallet is a critical step in securing your cryptocurrency assets. Ledger devices, such as Ledger Nano S Plus and Ledger Nano X, are among the most trusted cold wallets in the crypto industry. This guide walks you through the setup process using ledger.com/start.
Start by opening your browser and navigating to ledger.com/start. This official page provides device-specific setup instructions and access to Ledger Live, the companion software that helps manage your crypto.
Once on the page, download Ledger Live, the official app for desktop or mobile. Ledger Live allows you to install apps, manage accounts, and send or receive cryptocurrencies. Choose the version compatible with your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android).
Install the app and open it to begin the setup process.
Plug in your Ledger Nano S Plus or Nano X via USB. Ledger Live will detect the device and prompt you to start setup.
Choose “Set up as new device” if it’s your first time using the device. Follow the on-screen instructions:
Important: Anyone with access to your 24-word phrase can steal your crypto. Keep it offline and private.
Ledger Live performs a genuine check to ensure your Ledger device is legitimate and not tampered with. Follow the prompts to verify the device. If successful, you can proceed.
Now that your device is set up, install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to manage. For example, install the Bitcoin or Ethereum app using Ledger Live. Each app corresponds to a different blockchain.
Next, go to the Accounts tab and add accounts for the assets you plan to store. This lets you view balances, receive addresses, and transaction history in Ledger Live.
To receive crypto, click “Receive,” choose the account, and verify the address on your Ledger device before sharing it.
To send crypto, click “Send,” enter the recipient address, amount, and confirm the transaction both in Ledger Live and on your device.
Store your Ledger device and recovery phrase in separate secure locations. You don’t need to keep the device plugged in all the time—just connect it when you need to sign transactions.
With your Ledger device properly set up, you now have one of the safest methods to store your crypto securely offline.
